Google Assistant Comes To DISH Network

The internet of things has found its way into most homes around the country in some form or another. From thermostats, to door bells, coffee makers and lightbulbs, many people have introduced some sort of smart functionality into their homes. Which is why it’s so exciting to see DISH Network introduce Google Assistant support. Now you’ll be able to control your DISH hardware with just your voice if you have a Google Assistant enabled device. Yes, that includes your DVR.

Yes, DISH has had Alexa support for well over a year. So for Alexa users this might not be the biggest news. However, a lot of Google users have been hoping for this upgrade for a long time.

Google Assistant does a great job setting itself apart from Alexa by supporting rather broad commands in addition to the more intuitive specific ones. For example, now DISH users can tell their Google Assistant to “put on a Harrison Ford movie” or “show me a reality show” if you don’t know exactly what you want to watch. Basic commands like “mute my hopper”, “pause” and “resume” also work as well.

It is worth noting that no DISH Hardware has Google Assistant functionality built in. Which means for a DISH user to utilize this new feature they will need their own Google Assistant device like a Google Home or Android phone.

What this all adds up to is that DISH users can now use a Google Assistant enabled device to completely control their DISH hardware with their voice. This functionality is currently supported on all internet-connected Hopper DVRs, the Hopper Duo, Joey and Wally.
